A few weeks ago I saw a calendar on Pinterest that I absolutely loved. They used a collage picture frame, decorated it and used a dry erase marker to write down daily events. I thought it was so cute and simple and something I could definitely do! So I ran down to Hobby Lobby and collage frames were on sale!
On sale for $14.99! Maybe that is a bit much...? But it was a price I happily paid. I also picked out some different sheets of colored paper. It took me about an hour because I'm so picky and was trying to decide what went together and what would look good and this and that and the other thing. I finally found a selection that I liked when I realized that I had to put them back because I wouldn't be able to read ANYTHING on them because they were so dark/patterned/whatever. Finally chose a marbled set and a semi matching polka dot set.
Took the backing of the frames out and used that to trace onto my paper:
Next I took my trusty sharpies and doodled on Monday-Sunday. I put them back into the frame and was so excited to flip it over and see my finished work!
And I hated it immediately.
The ONLY day I liked was Monday and I suddenly remembered that I hate my handwriting. I didn't give myself enough space around the edges and some of the lettering was cut off, and the darker polka dots were almost impossible to read. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed. But I hung it up and gave it a chance. And I still hated it.
So I ran back to the store for a do-over. Couldn't for the life of me find a stencil that I liked, so I found some great little letter stickers and some potentially easier to read on paper.
A one million percent improvement and I'm now thrilled with it! I'm going to crochet a little dry erase marker holder/white board eraser to hang off of it too, so that I never lose my marker! Anyway, basically the whole thing under $20! And I've learned my lesson, I will always be using stencils or stickers for lettering from now on!
